LGBTQ+ & Christians

Why is homosexuality wrong for the Christian? Is it because it makes people feel uncomfortable? Is it because it does not fit the traditions of this nation? Or is it a more painfully obvious answer. What makes murder so wrong? What makes hate so wrong? These things are not right or wrong based upon our nations laws or the good intentions of our hearts, these things are wrong because God decreed them so.
Just because something is wrong does not mean it is easy to accept.
“I find then the law, that, to me who would do good, evil is present. For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: but I see a different law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and brining me into captivity under the law of sin which is in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me out of the body of this death?”
-Romans 7:21-24
As a Christian I struggled with this specific topic recently. I work alongside openly gay people and supporters of the LGBTQ+ community and they are some the nicest people you will ever meet, but that does not make the life style they have chosen moral. As Christians we are to be just that, followers of Christ.
“For our citizenship is in the heavens, whence also a Savior we await – the Lord Jesus Christ – who shall transform the body of our humiliation to its becoming conformed to the body of His glory, according to the working of His power, even to subject Himself to all things.”
-Philippians 3:20-21
“Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.”
-1 Corinthians 6:9-11
Many will say that they are just born that way, and they are right, we are all born will the natural inclination to defy God (Genesis 3 + Romans 1). But we no longer have to fear the fleshly inclination that once bound us, as Christian we have the Father to run to in times of struggle with the flesh (Romans 7-8 & John 16). Homosexuality, just like every other sin out there, is wrong because it is in defiance of God’s law.
Homosexuality is wrong for the Christian because it is in direct defiance of the law He sat down at the beginning of creation.
“For this reason, a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.”
-Genesis 2:24
Be alert, sin will feel right at times, but doesn’t a dream feel so real while you dream it? And only when you awaken do you truly see how dark and twisted it was, so is sin. While you are giving into it, it feels real and fulfilling, but when that moment is gone you are left feeling empty and without purpose. So, you seek out another “high” and then another, and then another, until you have wasted years of your life chasing after a fairy tale fulfillment. If sin truly provided fulfillment, then everyone would only have to sin once and we would no longer feel the inclination to sin for the rest of our lives. Don’t waste your life chasing after fleeting moments of fulfillment, rather you seek eternal fulfillment as a true follower of Christ Jesus, Son of God Almighty.
“Do not quench the Spirit; do not despise prophetic utterances. But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good; abstain from every form of evil. Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.”
-1 Thessalonians 5:19-24
Now, true followers of Christ may end up being the only ones who listen to God’s law in the end but that does not mean that we are the only ones under it. When the end comes all will bow to God’s law and justice will be dealt to all:
“Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their own deeds. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.”
-Revelation 20:11-15
“But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, brining swift destruction upon themselves. Many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of the truth will be maligned; and in their greed they will exploit you with false words; their judgment from long ago in not idle, and their destruction is not asleep. For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to pits of darkness, reserved for judgment; and did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a preacher of righteousness, with seven others, when He brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly; and if He condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to destruction by reducing them to ashes, having made them an example to those who would live ungodly lives thereafter; and if He rescued righteous Lot, oppressed by the sensual conduct of unprincipled men (for by what he saw and heard that righteous man, while living among them, felt his righteous soul tormented day after day by their lawless deeds), then the Lord knowns how to rescue the godly from temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment for the day of judgment, and especially those who indulge the flesh in its corrupt desires and despise authority.”
-2 Peter 2:1-10
“Worldliness is anything that makes sin seem normal and righteousness seem strange.”
